Question #1:
What would you think of this as an engagement ring?
I know that, despite gemstones having a longer history with engagements than diamonds, they aren't as common these days, but lately I have been finding myself drawn to colored stones. I love diamonds, but have always found myself more drawn to ruby, sapphire, or topaz. The last few weeks I have been perusing rings, and my soon-to-be fiance has as well, and I got caught up in the whirlwind of diamonds...Then I saw this ring, and fell in love:

It's a pink topaz with diamond accents set in white gold. It's raised so a wedding band would be no problem, and I am thinking perhaps a channel set diamond wedding band along these lines:

What are your opinions? In the end, I'll make the decision best suited for my tastes since I'm the one who'll be wearing it for the rest of my life, but I wanted some outside opinions. Please note that I am not interested in hearing any De-Beers-induced rantings about how it can't be an engagement ring if it isn't a diamond...

The girl’s eyes grew wide with fear but I did not falter. I clutched at the girl’s wrist and pulled her closer to me.
I caught a glimpse of myself in the reflection of the girl’s panic stricken eyes and gasped in horror at the monster that stared back at me.

Chapter I:
I fell back on my chair, and looked up at the ceiling. I could hear the biology teacher speaking in the background while I pretended to pay attention. I looked across the room; my best friend, Kaitlin, was absorbed in the lesson, taking in the information and writing it on her notebook with her neat cursive. I kept looking around, and found Athena flirting with two other guys at the back of the room. She wore a low pink V-neck shirt along with an extremely short jeans skirt, her blonde hair was down and she carried a pink Prada handbag, matching her high heeled shoes. I turned back to the front, pulling of the room to glance at the clock; School was officially over in….
5...4…3...2...1...
The bell rung and we all jumped off our seats. I grabbed Kaitlin’s arm and ran out the door. We stopped by our lockers, just to pull out our bags. There, we met with Kaitlin’s boyfriend, Gregory, who was giving Kaitlin and me a ride to my place. He put his arm around her and led us out to the school’s parking lot. I pulled the handle of his Escalade and slid in the back seat. While Gregory and Kaitlin talked about their summer plans, I looked out the car’s window. Just then, I saw him. His messy hair, about the color of her own, was blowing in the wind. His beautiful topaz eyes shone under the sunlight. He wore a gray t-shirt and skinny black jeans, outlining his well-built muscular figure. I watched him as he got close and closer, each stride, and each pace in perfect confidence. Suddenly, he pulled the handle to the door across from me. I stared Blankly as he got in Gregory car. Then, he caught my eyes, and I felt as if I were drowning in them.

I'm going to a wedding in a few weeks and I'll be wearing a long black dress (the theme is black and white). I'm thinking of wearing pink gemstones with it (black and pink is hot), but I'm torn between the pink sapphire set and the topaz set... Fun Question-If You Couldn't Have a Diamond, What Gem Would Sit In Your Engagement Ring?
Let's say that diamonds were totally unavailable and you had no choice but to select another stone...what would it be? There are SO many out there, from the well known emerald, ruby, sapphire, topaz, etc to the rare and exotics such as tanzanite, tourmaline, labradorite, apatite,iolite,chrome diopside, prasiolite,alexandrite,morganite ( a spectacular pale peachy-pink) Many well known stones such as citrine and garnets come in different colors too...and then some.like sapphires and topaz, come in white or colorless and are exellent diamond subtitutions....So if you weren't able to have a diamond engagement ring, what stone would you select...me? I'd go with the garnet hands down because it's my husband's birthstone, in the familiar deep red color....infact he's getting me a 3ct oval garnet encircled with champagne diamonds and set in 18 kt gold for a B.D present (he thinks it's funny because my BD stone is a peridot, and I rather have his BD stone instead).....I just might wear that one more than any other ring he's bought me, save for my wedding band.(But it doesn't stop me from collecting & wearing other gemstones...lol)

Book about dragons and people with semi precious stone names?
Ok, it sounds crazy but I read this fantasy book back when I was 17 so about 6 years ago. It was about a prince, his wife and their son living in a kingdom and there are dragons present. All I remember is a lot of references to semi precious stones - onyx, topaz etc. They may have been people's names or something.Also, the prince is rebuilding a castle made out or rose pink colored stone for his wife.
Its a really sweet book. I really really want to find it and read it again as it brings back lots of lovely memories of sitting on the couch reading for days!!

What Are Some Good Names For This Character?
I'm really considering writing this supernatural romance story I cooked up, so I want a name for my female lead. She has raven black hair, and incredibly pale skin. She is frozen forever at sixteen, since she is immortal and died at that age (no, she is not a vampire). Her left eye is a clear, normal sky blue, but her right eye is a vibrant, shimmering, bright topaz colour. Her lips are corpse pale, but not blue; in fact, they are a creamy pink. She likes to wear black mascara and eyeliner, and always wears gothic clothes that cover up 97% of her body (not including her face). She also wears gloves everyday without fail, which are usually black. Basically, she is a very gothic girl.She is very quiet and withdrawn, but amazingly clever since she has had to repeat high school several times. She has no friends, because no one is allowed to find out she isn't human. But underneath, she is kind and a great problem-solver, and used to be very happy before she, her boyfriend, and her newborn daughter were killed by her father. Because of this, she is very troubled, and cannot find peace.
I was considering calling her Tia (like a variation of Tear, since she is so sad all the time), or Shade. But I would like a better name.
So, what should I call this immortal, forever-sixteen, depressed main character?
P.S. She was actually born in 1970, so a name from that time would be good. However her name can't be too old, because it needs to fit in with the modern age, specifically the year 2009.
For those curious about the topaz eye, she was born with it topaz-coloured. But, when she was brough back to life, it became really vibrant and bright becasue of her new life.

my daughter will be turning 8 in June-this is the party we have planned for her (luau theme at our home). there are 18 kids invited...DECORATIONS:
-our front walkway will be scattered w/flowers and the door will be draped with leis and green streamers to walk through
- her little sister will stand next to the door and greet guests by putting on their leis and handing them their hula skirts (that i'm making w/stramers attached to ribbon)

SLEEPPANTS RELAY: kids divide into 2 teams. there will be a bucket of water and a pair of my bf's sleep pants for each team. each team member has to dip the pants into the bucket of water then run across the porch and back, peel of the pants and hand them to the next player. first team to finish wins.
SPRINKER TAG: there will be 4 sprinklers set up around the yard. the kids run around the yard but have to stop when the sprinklers are turned on-they can't move again until the water shuts off.

Ok so i really want an email address or just plain address to her house or publisher. Any where that you send fan mail because I have been having lines that should belong in twilight just like pop in my head so i have started to write them down. My friends think I should send them to her. ok so i agree with you all. i LOVE the brown and blue but i wanted outside opinion cause its always good to have... i thought pink would clash with her colors so i was kinda hesitante to get the pink one anyway... thank yall so much

The pool of florescent topaz is at it again.

Ah, how peaceful is the beach?
